On my travels today, we stopped to pay respects to Jack Layton. I was deeply moved by the beauty of his final resting place. He was a man who devoted his life to being a voice for the voiceless. Sadly losing his battle with cancer August 22, 2011.
I had the privilege of knowing Jack and working with him in the Regent Park Community during his early political years in the 80's. Through his decades of service to the people, he worked his way from City Counselor, to a Member of Provincial Parliament, to the Leader of the Federal NDP. And ultimately Federal Leader of the Opposition - just prior to his passing.
And I know that Toronto, Ontario and Canada feels the great, great loss of this magnificent man. And in some ways, will never be the same again.
Rest Peacefully Jack!!
