Sherman Hemsley - The infamous George Jefferson - past away today at age 74.
I am deeply saddened by this news. I was first introduced to Mr. Hemsley's character portrayal of George Jefferson through my beloved Granny as we would sit together and watch All In The Family. The Jefferson family being the neighbour of Archie and Edith Bunker.
Those of you who have watched All in the Family know that the show is of bigot Archie Bunker and was created with the sole purpose of putting a spotlight on the idiocy and ignorance surrounding racism.
The Jeffersons owned a laundry mat and eventually Moved On UP ... renting out their home to Mike and Gloria along with their son Joey. Much to the delight of Edith!!
The Jeffersons were just one of several spin-off shows to branch off of All in the Family. Others include Archie's Place and Maud - starring Bea Arthur.
What can I say? The world has lost yet Another Legend!!!
